Get the .ORG Advantage

When you buy a .ORG, your organization is linked to a well-established brand of trust and integrity. One of the original top-level domains (TLDs), .ORG became the registry of choice for organizations dedicated to serving the public interest, and today .ORG is considered one of the most trusted domains on the internet.

If your organization is a noncommercial entity, people expect to find you in the .ORG community - nonprofits, foundations, philanthropic and cultural institutions, religious, civic, arts, social and fraternal organizations, health and legal services, clubs and community volunteer groups.

Commercial businesses also benefit. Registering with .ORG lends credibility to the activities of a charitable arm, and it also protects your brand and trademark as represented in your other domain name TLD registrations.

Extraordinary .ORGs

Large and small, local and global, .ORGs influence our world every day, effecting positive change on our planet. The .ORG registry highlights extraordinary organizations every month, and is a proud sponsor of the 2008 Webby Awards, the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet.

Web hosting service

hostplans

A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own or lease for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation.

Forwarding or Masking Your Domain Name

Domain name forwarding lets you automatically direct your domain name's visitors to a different website.

Masking prevents visitors from seeing your domain name forwarding by keeping your domain name in the Web browser's address bar.

Let's look at this example of how you can configure forwarding.

To forward or mask your domain name, you must use our nameservers. For more information, see Setting Nameservers for Your Domain Names.

For your domain name to forward, its A record must be 64.202.189.170. For more information, see Updating Your Domain Name's IP Address for Forwarding.

To Forward or Mask Your Domain Name

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. Next to Domains, click Launch.
  3. Select the domain name you want to forward.

NOTE: You cannot forward or mask .tk domain names.

  4. Click Forward, and then select Forward Domain.
  5. Select http:// or https:// depending on your server settings. For more information, see HTTP vs. HTTPS.
  6. In the Forward to field, enter the URL you want to forward your domain name to.
  7. To automatically update your nameservers to accommodate your forwarding changes, select Update my DNS setting to support this change.

NOTE: Activating this setting updates your domain name's nameservers and IP address. If you are currently hosting a website for a domain name and you forward it, visitors can no longer access your website. Instead, forwarding redirects your website's visitors to the URL you enter.

  8. To view additional options, including masking, click Advanced Options.
  9. Select one of the following:
    • Forward Only— Specifies the length of time for this forwarding setting. Select one of the following Redirect types:
      • I am permanently forwarding my domain — Redirects to the site you specified in the Forward To field using a "301 Moved Permanently" HTTP response. The HTTP 301 response code tells user-agents (including search engines) that the location has permanently moved.
      • I am only temporarily forwarding my domain — Redirects to the site you specified in the Forward To field using a "302 Found" HTTP response. The HTTP 302 response code tells user-agents (including search engines) that the location has temporarily moved.
    • Forward with Masking— Prevents the forwarded domain name URL from displaying in the browser's address bar, and lets you enter Meta Tags for search engine crawlers in the following fields:
      • Title — Displays at the top of the browser window and in search results.
      • Description — A short description of your website to display in search engine results.
      • Keyword — A list of comma-separated keywords that describes the content and purpose of your website.
  10. Click OK.

NOTE: Forwarded domain names can take up to 24-48 hours to activate.

Linux is an Open Source system it has many different versions. I know most have heard of Red Hat,Debian, and others.

Each server operating system works to put your site on the internet, the differences is where you have to decide on, are you looking at a business site then you would want a system to have more security to safe guard your customers. I could say which one is best but that would not be honest, the choice is yours on how you want to go and what you are comfortable with.
